The Healing Power of Playing Catch

About This Video

A family emergency consumed five production days. BC Slace, the normally invisible lucky rabbit's foot behind the episodes, suggested they make a video about playing catch. It was handy for two reasons: Van had acquired some unfamiliar cameras he wanted to test (a five-pound professional camera, a drone, a GoPro, an Insta360, an iPhone 12 Pro), and playing catch is fun.

They threw a GoPro across the field to simulate the ball's path through the air. Too much spin. It didn't work. The Insta360 with its two hemispherical lenses got the shot instead. Even in your mid-40s, an hour of playing catch relieved the stress of the vanished production days. So simple, so beautiful. The snap, the achievable fraternal goals of the perfect throw and the perfect catch.

A family emergency sucked up five production days, unleashing a stress hell ride upon this spirited man. And that spirited man right there, Mr.

Slice, suggested they make an episode about playing catch. Mr. Slice's idea

about making a movie about catch, well, it was a handy idea. Handy for two reasons. First, this

spirited man had recently acquired through legal means some unfamiliar cameras and lenses he wanted to try out

and maybe learn how to use. The wide lens gave the appearance that they were standing far apart. The

drone. Imagine what this shot would have cost before the invention of the drone.

GoPro maybe the best thing to happen to homemade film making since the iMac TV.

They tried to simulate the ball's path through the air with the GoPro, but uh it didn't really work. Too much spin.

This camera, this Insta 360, is a sort of miracle gadget with two hemispherical lenses that shoot the entire universe

all at once. By horsing around with the Insta 360 and some free software, this spirited man was indeed able to simulate

the baseball's flight, the shot they failed to get with the GoPro. The second thing that made this idea a handy idea

is that playing catch is fun. Playing catch for an hour or so relieved the

stress of the vanished five production days. So simple, so beautiful. The snap,

the achievable fraternal goals of the perfect throw and the perfect catch. [Music]
