Good Fathers Are Vital

About This Video

The boy turns three in three weeks, and he is finally old enough for a proper adventure. Van takes him to a Wilderness Collective trip, Vegas to Utah, and uses the trip to work through his anxiety about education. Canterbury Tales at 17. Not a single class about how to make money. That is the grudge.

The real subject is what it means to be a good father rather than a present one. Van draws a line between fathers who show up and fathers who model a way of being. The outdoor adventure is scaffolding. The question underneath: what kind of man are you teaching your son to become by the way you live, not by the things you say? Good fathers are not defined by devotion but by the quality of the struggle they let their children witness.
